Sweating is the result of the action of sweat glands located under the armpits and feet, but they are also found in your hands. It can become a real nuisance when your hands sweat excessively everyday. To combat it, it is useful to know how to care for your hands and products that limit excessive sweating.

It is no coincidence that our feet, hands and the forehead sweat easily as the eccrine glands are particularly concentrated in these regions. These glands are triggered under certain emotions such as anguish or stress.

The hands become sweaty and hot when you are in a stressfull job appointment. However, you can reduce excessive sweating of your hands by taking care of them everyday. Although hygiene is an important part of the story, deodorants and antiperspirants can also help reduce the sweating of hands. The majority of antiperspirants or deodorants for underarms can also be used for hands. However, it's true that deodorants for the feet can be a bit aggressive for the hands.

To combat excessive sweating of the hands, follow these tips:
  • Wash your hands regularly with mild soap.
  • Use a good anti-transpiration product made of aluminum salts.
  • In daytime use refreshing towels against transpiration.
  • Talc your hands as often as you can.
  • Rub your hands with lotion alcohol camphor.

What is a cuticle nipper?

A cuticle nipper is a tool used in nail care, manicure and pedicure. It helps remove the dead skin around the nails. Cuticle nippers are used both for fingernails and toenails, that means they are used both in pedicure and manicure.

Below is the image of a typical cuticle nipper:

Our nails are made of a protein called keratin and the exposed portion is made of just dead and hardened keratin. The cuticles are the dead skin overlapping your nail plate.

Symptoms for an unhealthy nail are most usually a minor redness caused by cutting your cuticles and a feeling of itchiness and blisters around the cuticles. In some rare cases, discolored debris under the nail can be seen and it is thought to be a sign of a fungal infection.

How to care for your cuticles

Ragged cuticles are one of the most annoying things if you don't know how to care for them. However, there are easy things you can do everyday to keep your nails healthy. Whatever you do, don't snip or bite them!

Actually, keeping your cuticles healthy doesn't require much effort. The main reason for getting hangnails is dryness and if you think your cuticles are ragged and dried, the first thing you should do is to moisturise them. This can be done by gently applying hand cream or lotion and rub it into the cuticle. You may want use nail oil instead of a hand cream or lotion as well.

If your cuticles are still getting dry even though you use hand creams to moisturize from time to time, you can try keeping a hand moisturiser in your bag and using it several times a day. This will prevent dryness, which is the most important reason you are getting hangnails or dead skin cells around your nails.

Cutting the cuticles is not an advisable behavior in nail care because the cuticle prevents bacteria from entering your body. However, regularly grooming your cuticles will keep your nails healthy as overgrown cuticles might suffocate nail growth.

You'll need a cuticle remover, a cuticle stick, and later a cuticle nipper to do this. Using cuticle cream or oil is not recommended. Only use a proper cuticle remover to soften the cuticle. Gently push back the cuticles using the cuticle stick after applying the cuticle remover. You should do this gently and gradually in order not to damage the cuticle. Then, move the stick in circular motions to help remove any dead skin.

After that, you can use a cuticle nipper to trim any remaining hangnails. The cuticle nipper should be sharp enough to cut cleanly, otherwise you may damage your nails.

If you are regularly having manicure by a professional, make sure your nail technician sterilizes all tools used during the session. Cuticle nippers come in contact with the human skin and risk breaking the skin, therefore dangerous diseases like HIV or Hepatitis can be easily transferred from one person to the other by using unsanitized tools.

How to choose your cuticle nipper

A good cuticle nipper should be made of stainless steel and be able to keep its sharpness over time. Sharpness is the key factor in determining the quality of a cuticle nipper because you'll need to be able to cut precisely in order not to harm your skin and nails.

A cuticle nipper which cause pulling on the skin while cutting will cause redness and itching and lead to unhealthy cuticles and nails over time. The grip of a good nipper should be comfortable and it should be able to cut precisely to protect the skin while trimming your cuticles.

Another factor to watch out is that the nipper should be able to spring open very well. If you cannot control the tool comfortably, sharpness or the quality becomes obsolete. Spring action of a cuticle nipper is very important in order to be able to cut with precision.

Another factor to consider while buying your cuticle nipper could be the head of the tool. It should have a very small head and be able to get into nooks and crannies.

How to use a cuticle nipper

The first thing you should do is to identify and analyse the cuticle area to see if there is any loose skin around the cuticle. If there is, a cuticle nipper would be great for this.

Gently remove the cuticle area without cutting or nipping the skin. You don't want to break the skin in any type of way because this can cause infections. Only remove the loose skin and any type of hangnails.

If you notice that you have cuticles above the nail bed, you can gently push it back and remove that loose skin using the cuticle nipper.

If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself at home, consider going to a professional manicurist.

Types of Cuticle Nippers

There are a few types of cuticle nippers which are differentiated by their blade and hinge designs. Firstly, there are different blade sizes, full, half and quarter jaw. The smalest ones are considered to be the most preferable ones since they are more suited for delicate and detailed work. The second thing differentiating cuticle nippers are the hinge types, box hinges and lap hinges. Generally box hinges are more expensive to produce; however, do last longer and don’t loosen over time.

Mehaz 777 - 4" Cuticle Nipper

I had purchased a diferent brand of nipper that was touted as excellent. It was not even adequate. My manicurist gave me the Mehaz name. I ordered the 4 inch Mehaz 777 1/4. What a revelation! It does a superior job. The skin is trimmed closely and neatly. I could not ask for a better cuticle nipper. I now own 3 of them. Kudos

I've been doing nails for 12 years. I have used every brand and jaw size available. I came back to Mehaz after realizing these nippers(777) really are great. I can give precision manicures and pedicures to my clients whick sets me apart from what would be the competition. I love doing nails!

Sephora Brand Cuticle Nipper

The quality of the clipper seems good. The clipper works OK. It doesn't seem to spring open very well and you have to be very steady while using it, so good luck using your non-writing hand.

I found these nippers hard to control because there isn't much spring action to assist the opening and closing.
